From the beginning, Ellie's family objected strongly to her dating this guy, Joel. "It has to do with family background," the family said, "and the girl will have to suffer for the rest of her life if she is with him."

Due to family pressure, the couple quarrelled very often. Though Ellie loved Joel deeply, she always asked him, "How deep is your love for me?"
